Render Wrangler

As a render wrangler, you will be the front facing warrior doing battle with customer’s renders and helping them reach amazing outcomes. The render wrangler is a jack of all trades that understands the VFX industry, its major software packages, how artists work and is also at least a junior Linux engineer. The SideFX Houdini software package will be a large focus for this role, as well as other packages such as 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, Maya, et al. This position requires someone who is passionate about customer service and is interested in exploring new models of delivering service through developing a global community-based support model.

Who You Are:
You are interested in the techie side of the VFX world. You want to see thousands of frames submitted and rendered as quickly and efficiently as possible. You should be experienced with and comfortable using various flavors of Linux from the command line. You should also have interest in understanding how large-scale distributed systems work. The sight of green on a dashboard will be calming to you and the sight of red and orange will activate your urge to help. You like solving problems that you've seen before, and more importantly, ones you haven't. You will be the link between artists and the technology that enables their outcomes. You will also be passionate about customer service and creating online communities. 

Knowledge, Understanding, and Experience We're Looking For:

  • Able to work in a Linux based operating system using command line tools and understand file system navigation and have basic knowledge of unix and python scripting. 

  • Basic understanding of Windows 

  • Show or intermediate understanding of Cinema4D, 3DS Max and Maya and common plugins such as VRay, intermediate to advanced understanding of the SideFX Houdini package. Knowledge of other major software packages is a bonus.

  • Demonstrate basic knowledge in existing Render Scheduler systems such as Deadline, Afanasy, Backburner, Tractor and the like

  • Good customer service skills and a desire to help build a community-based customer service model.

  • Monitor and proactively manage the render farm queue

  • Troubleshoot render submission issues, examine for hardware or software causes, and escalate issues to appropriate departments as needed.

  • File and follow up tickets with any ongoing issues through to software suppliers

  • As per production request, monitor uploads for deliveries and ensure the delivery to the outputs is complete with necessary technical checks.

  • Communicate clearly and inform production of obstacles immediately.
